Bootleg raises dough for the all-ages movement!

About 100 people crammed into our tiny venue for dinner, drinks, and music Friday night and helped AMP raise close to $3,000 to go towards book printing.

Big thanks to Two Gallants and Little Wings for playing, Leif Hedendal for cooking, and be+cause studios, Princeton Sound, Rainbow Grocery, Bi-Rite Market, Tartine Bakery, Green Gulch and Full Belly Farms!

Let Everyone In Campaign Update at 2 Weeks

As of 9/22 we've raised about $3,100 towards our $15,000 Let Everyone In Campaign goal thanks to individuals, local all-ages organizations around the country, and My Morning Jacket ticket buyers. HUGE UPS to the folks that have chipped in.

We've still got our work cut out though!

Without your support, we won't be able to print the all-ages manualfesto, and share the untold stories of tireless all-ages organizers around the country trying to make a difference in their communities. We also won't be able to keep up this website and directory, provide direct support to young leaders in cities from Daytona Beach, FL, to Olympia, WA, connect and resource established organizations, and explore ways to sustain the more than 130 organizations in the network. Really, it's a lot of bang for your buck.

What's way more worthwhile and guaranteed than an investment in real estate or the stock market?

Well, a lot of things. But especially AMP. Especially right now.

Please consider making a donation!

My Morning Jacket to Donate Portion of Ticket Sales to AMP at Bay Area Concert

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

My Morning Jacket to donate portion of ticket sales to All-Ages Movement Project at Berkeley Greek Theater Show

San Francisco, CA, September 16, 2008

Kentucky band My Morning Jacket announced that it will designate one dollar from every ticket sale of their concert at the Berkeley Greek Theater to the All-ages Movement Project (AMP), a national network organization dedicated to create more opportunities for young people to connect through music and art.

On Friday September 19, My Morning Jacket will play in Berkeley as part of their national tour in support of their new record Evil Urges. After the show, they will present a check to representatives of the nonprofit organization.

The donation stands to put the organization well on its way to raising $15,000 in 30 days, an effort to fund a national education campaign to help communities in six different regions in the US establish and sustain youth music organizations.

Music opportunities for young people have shown to have unparalleled positive effects on youth development, artistic experimentation, and community engagement, but are often nonexistent outside of affluent progressive areas. The All-ages Movement Project was created by four successful youth music organizations in 2006, to help young music lovers and community leaders everywhere set up lasting all-ages venues and music programs for underserved youth.

Bootleg! is a fundraising event for the All-ages Movement Project--a national network supports the creation and sustainability of community music organizations by and for young people.

This music speakeasy was organized to point to the clandestine nature of youth music culture. While many strengths rise out of self-sufficient, off the grid music and arts organizing, most independent community spaces and music programs are struggling, losing the real estate battle, and often disappearing even after years of existence and support. At the same time these organizations serve over two million young people/year, often the youth that are harder to reach and engage.

With the support of our donors the AMP network has documented the best practices of 10 model organizations and compiled the first and only book to ever document the history and explain the ins and outs of all-ages music and youth programming. We need to raise $15,000 to publish it and we're well on our way! Your donation supports AMP providing access to knowledge and information that is limited to progressive urban pockets. Releasing the Manuafesto is the kick off to educational programs in 6 regions across the US.

Thank you for your support!

L.A.'s New Crop of All-ages Venues

After the closing of L.A.'s all-ages institutions Masque, the Starwood and Jabberjaw, a new crop of venues are popping up to fill the all-ages void. The ten year old Smell and the newer Pehrspace are two of these non-profit, all volunteer, all-ages venues. To read more about these spaces and others, check out this article in Variety or visit the Smell and Pehrspace online.

Bellevue's Ground Zero Becomes The Club

For 15 years, Ground Zero has stood strong through problems such as problems like a shrinking budget, fickle interest from its target audience, and having its civic purpose misunderstood, but it has remained Bellevue's only all-ages venue. And now, Ground Zero will be getting a new Program Director and a new name - The Club. The name is a part of nationwide re-branding of the Boys and Girls Club, but the venue will continue to host shows as a part of its Ground Zero Concert Series. You can read more about The Club here or you can visit their website here.

Scranton, PA's All-ages Venue, Test Pattern, Closing

The Test Pattern Gallery, practically the only space for all-ages shows in Scranton, PA, will be closing its doors at the end of the month. The four owners of Test Pattern say that their landlord has decided not to renew their lease after four years of tenancy. But this isn't the end for all-ages in Scranton - the owners say they're getting busy looking for another space to rent and hope to have something up and running by the end of the month. In the mean time, expect a big block party outside of Test Pattern on July 27th to celebrate four successful years of all-ages shows. Click here to read more.
